Vice President Kembo Mohadi officially commissioned Pembi River Bridge worth US$1.8 million close to Mvurwi town in Mashonaland Central.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Vice President, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, said the government will continue to prioritise the allocation of resources for infrastructure development to improve the quality of lives of Zimbabweans.

President Mnangagwa said his administration seeks to improve the quality of lives for everyone by providing equitable development.

The Pembi River Bridge, which is worth US$1.8 million took two years to construct and replaces a narrow bridge that was built in the 1960s, which had been a cause of fatal road accidents.

The bridge along the Harare-Kanyemba road is part of the regional trunk road connecting the northern part of southern Africa through the Kanyemba Border Post. Kanyemba is on the Zambezi, situated where Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique meet, is one of the most undeveloped areas in the country.

The area is endowed with abundant resources and is found in an excellent location suited for trade and tourism.

The government has been assessing the area for opportunities for both local and foreign investors in tourism, agriculture and trade.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Biggie Matiza said despite challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Vision 2030 is attainable.

The event was also attended by Masholand Central Governor and Residents Minister Monica Mavhunga and other senior officials from the province.
