Learn to Surf in Big Bay and Blouberg – Cape Town Surf Lessons
Surfing in Cape Town

Are you looking forward to becoming a pro surfer in Big Bay and Blouberg? You are not alone. There are many people who spend most of their time in their professional lives, and, because they live far from the beaches, they only get a little time to go to the beaches to practice. As a beginner, you need to learn how to surf before you get into the deep waters with huge surfs.

It is a good practice to take professional surfing lessons from a qualified trainer to achieve your goals faster. You can as well go surfing on your own and start to learn surfing with minimal expenses and at your own pace. But it may take you a long time getting to master every aspect of surfing. This post guides you on the things you need and the steps to take when learning to surf.

It is a good idea to start teaching yourself to surf when you have enough time. During a long vacation to Cape Town, you can visit the beaches in Big Bay and Blouberg with your surfing accessories. Do not forget to come with your sunblock to protect your skin because you would be spending long hours on the beaches.

Here are some things you should be careful about to successfully become a pro surfer.

1. Be Realistic with Your Surfing Process Expectations

Learning to surf is a big process. Your expectations should be that you will become a surfer only if you go through the process fully. And this really takes time and determination. Giving up during the learning process would kill your big dream. Wrong expectations can also make you do some things in the wrong way and slow your learning progress further.

Something to note is that you cannot learn to surf in all the waters at the same time. Ideally, you should start with whitewater. Take your lessons and ensure that your stance and pop up is strong – really strong. Then you can progress to the small green wave. In the green waters, as a beginner, you can do 1 or 2 waves per session. But if you have a professional tutor, you may achieve more.

During your initial surfing lessons, you should not feel bad when you see others doing more surfs than you can achieve. Relax and concentrate on mastering the skills you need to get on each level. And be sure that you can do well without panic before proceeding to another level of waters.

2. Find Appropriate Spots with Surfs that Fit Beginners

As you start your surfing lessons, you will notice that various beaches have varied surf sizes, and even the direction and speeds are different. You should get the training to master all the waters to become a pro surfer. You should book your hotel near the Big Bay beaches. It will help you to avoid the expenses of travelling every day you are going to start your surfing lessons and you can comfortably enjoy your Seagrams 7 after a long day at surfing.

Here are some details of the Blouberg beaches that fit beginner surfers who are taking their initial lessons.

The Surf is Reliable and Consistent

As a beginner surfer, you need access to waters that have consistent surfs. Your learning progress will be good only when the waters give you consistency in the surfing experience. The beaches around Blouberg are good to go any time of the year. Come with your towel any time you want, and ensure to carry a warm top during winter because it could be chilly spending long hours in water.

Groundswells Provide a Better Learning Experience

The clean groundswells that are paramount in both Blouberg and Big Bay beach give you the opportunity to take your surfing lessons without interruptions. Groundswells provide energy movement on the waves for a longer distance than the wind swells. There is also a better interaction between the water and the ocean floor, giving a smooth surf in shallow waters.

They Offer Both Left and Right Beach Breaks

When you begin to learn surfing, you will want a surf that breaks on flat or smooth ground. Both the Bloubergstrand beach and the Big Bay beach waves break on the beach. The breaks also offer both left and right, which is an advantage for surfing beginners. You will learn which one works best for you as you progress with your surfing lessons in Big Bay and Blouberg.

3. Buy your Own Surfboard

Starting out your surfing lessons requires that you carry your own surfboard to the beach. You can only avoid disappointments if you buy a nice and durable surfboard. It will help you during your lessons and even afterward.

When buying a surfboard, find one that is not too small. A bigger surfboard is ideal because as you advance in your surfing activities, it will be of help. But if you want to buy one for learning only, get an ideal size that you can pack on Husqvarna motorcycles every time you head to the beach in Big Bay. With proper maintenance, you can resell your surfboard afterward at a good price.

4. Stay Consistent with Your Surfing Lessons

If you really want to master your surfing lessons and become a pro, you need to ensure that your learning is consistent, no stopping. If you break from your lessons for a long duration, the next time you resume, you will notice that you have forgotten many areas, or you can only do one or two waves, and the performance is not too good.

To keep on with the momentum, you will need to have sufficient time to master the main beginner lessons. You can spend a bigger portion of your holidays learning to become an advanced surfer. But if you have short holidays, you will need to dedicate most of each holiday to surfing. And, to add on that, you should come with good vibes to get going.

Summing Up

Learning to surf in Big Bay and Blouberg beaches can be a wonderful experience. With the right information on how to set on the waters, you can become a pro surfer with ease. But the easiness also depends on how prepared you are for the lessons. That is why you need to get your expectations right before you proceed to your first surfing lesson.
